Even though I’m mexican, I’ve always loved to listen to music from different countries, the lyrics, the sound and the rythm have a lot to offer to our ears, and I simply love the way they can match their lyrics with languages that have no similitude with Spanish, so I will share with you one of my favourite bands, with a very different, fun and unique style.

You’ve probably heard of them before, probably not, but here I’ll show you a brief interview in which, they shared their story, musical ideas and future projects with us.

Where do you get the inspiration for your lyrics?
We get inspired with everything around us, what’s going on in our lives. Since we’re from Paris, we’re inspired by the numerous secrets this beautiful city shares, the citizens, the way they think, their stories, their good and bad times, and their pleasures.
We also take a lot of inspiration out of our journeys, our tours, the routes, the people and the stories we get to know on the road.
And of course, we get inspired by the current events, all that’s going on all over the world, the human and political events that force us to remain in silence. We the artists, have the luck to be heard, so we have to take the word and express our feelings and points of view facing the situations troubling us and troubling our societies.

How the band formed? Where did you meet and how did you decide to start a band?
We met each other in Paris, at the music school where we studied, in a neighborhood called Pigalle.
It was, overall, a human encounter of friendship, what led us to want to do something together, Gigi and I (Béno) found each other with the intentions of creating a band, an acoustic one in the beggining, so we could play in as many places as posible with solid texts to show. Rapidly, we interchanged our lyrics and our texts, and we started writing together, it functioned super!
After that we decided to enrich our sound with some other instruments.

So, it’s been hard to be heard? In France or another country?
The problem in France is to get to be on the radio, which is not easy at all for bands like us, not a lot of radios broadcast the “alternative chanson” music style.
So, we’ve concentrated a lot in our live shows, we’ve played about 500 concerts and now people listen to us and we share a lot more and in a stronger and more direct way with our audience, which is great. The live show is the escence of our lives .
To play outside, the most difficult thing is to find a professional red minded to work with us, (programmers, promoters, organizers, etc.) and it is really complicated in a financial point of view. It’s easy to play in Europe, but when you have to pay 7 plane tickets to cross the ocean, the thing gets harder for the organizers, to have the funds they need.
Fortunately with the internet, we know our music is being heard everywhere around the world which is a great success, at least tour music is traveling. Hopefully we will son too.

How has the audience acceptance been?
The audience it’s always been our best “producer”. Since we’re a scenario band, I mean, in permanent encounter with our public, it’s because of them that we’re still here today.
All of our concerts have been well received so our audience is in deed our strength.

Tell us about your musical influences.

The chanson française, no doubt. The music of Eastern Europe, the gypsy music, the swing manouche. The hispanic music, flamenco and rumba. The African music is also a inspiration for the rythm in our songs, and the alternative rock, we also use hip hop for the lyrics.

Will you be touring son?
Yes, we’ll be touring all around France this summer, for the presentation of our new album « LIBERTÉ CHÉRIE »  with a great date in Paris to celebrate this reléase in April 23 at the Pan Piper.
We’ll be in Germany too, cos we are very successful there. And we’ll be in England too, on August for some festivals that are incredibly good.

Will you visit Latin America? Specially Mexico, I would really love to see you guys here.
It’s like a dream for us to go and play in Latin America and I’m sure the audience will receive us very well.
We are working on contacting some partners there so we will probably go very son, we really want to.
And I promise you, if we go, we’ll go to Mexico. ;)
A hug from Paris!

In a very kind way, they answered all of our questions, and they even forgot to answer to the 8th question, probably an hour later I received a mail with the 8th answer “Our Project is to play more and more, and to go and sing “La liberté Cherié” all over the world! ;) Béno!”

We thank to the band for the time and the answers shared and we give our special gratitude to Boris Reith for his colaboration, our best wishes for the band and their future projects, cos personally, I WOULD LOVE TO GO TO A PERFORMANCE!
Hugs back from Mexico City!
